2004 Interview

Hi Leo. It's a pleasure to be interviewing you again for the site. I know how busy you are and want to thank you for taking some of your time to answer our
questions.
No problem at all. It is my pleasure to talk about my team and my students.

Your dream of organizing an Association now is a reality - and which reality!
What do you expect for the future ?
It is hard to believe that it is real now. All the hard work and dificulties that I passed means nothing when I see the dream coming true. To see my students showing the technic, sportmanship, dedication and respect that they
show make me a happy person. I feel that I'm planting a seed that will be carried forever by them and for whose they teach in the future. It's like I'm meeting a new member of my family that I didn't even know that existed.
It is really a dream made true.

So talk about your team. Any championships planned for this year ?
They just fought at Dungal tournament and fought a lot of tournaments last year. We are improving everyday. The rule in the Team is that we are never as good as we could be. We are always looking for improvement.

Your USA students seem very receptive. Do you have a good relationship with them ?
Hahahaha that is a good question. I'm so lucky to have the students that I have. Like I said before they are my family. Since the places that I live (they are two ahahahaah) until a personal problem that I have they participate. I don't have words to explain how thankful I am for their help. Without them I know that the dream would not be possible. They are all in my heart. When I miss my daughter Lorena, my Mom and my friends, I stop and think that they will understand me when they see what me and my students are building. They are all with me and we have the same goals. I love all them for make the dream possible.

In the last championships, your students had an impressive performance: few competitors bringing several medals, even on championships in Brazil. What gave your Association such a good result ?
Besides their own qualities and habilites, the Team work is the keyword for us. We all look for the team goal, for the family goal. When one wins everyone is wining. That way we support each other as best as we can and that has worked. In Brazil when Casey and Eddie needed good train, even the owner of my school there trained with them, even just get started. On the day of the tournament when Casey and Eddie won, all the Team won. In our team everyone is important. Since who goes to watch until who fights.

How was the the last class of 2003, in Lake Charles ? You organized a collective class among the associated academies and it was all harmony. Your students even made you a homage... How was that ?
ahahhaahah They made my heart beat more than when I'm training hard. It was great. This year will be even better. We will prepare time before and we will have fun and talk about new goals.

What are your plans and goals for 2004 and the near future ?
Keep working hard with my students and get better everyday. The future plans and goals are secret (ahahahahaahahh), but you can expect us better and better. We are training in small tournaments and we will surprise in the big ones like Pam Ams and Grapplers Quest.

We have seen you training a lot lately. Can we look forward to see you in
the matches ?
Trainig a lot? ahahahaahh Just if you are talking that I'm training my students a lot. Now serious. I took a break of my train to prepare them as best as I could. I'm just starting training again and for sure you will see me on the matches soon. I can't wait.

Thanks! Any final words ?
I want to thank my Mom and my Daugther Lorena for understand me being far from them. It is hard to be without them but it will be for short time. Special thanks for Casey Strobel for being a great sutdent and sponsor. For Jim Fuerstenberg, Mike Ellender, Kristian Rothaermel, Eddie Lirette, Jay Crain, James McGee ... Thanks for all students from all associated schools for trust me and my Jiu-Jitsu. For everyone that passed through my career and life and showed me wrong and right things. I learned a lot with you guys.

For you Howe for being such a good friend and for all your support and help to the Team. And for my idol, my Dad that is watching me for sure for teaching me to be a man of good heart.

You are all in my heart!!!!
